SSC CGL Tier 2 Maths Questions: 5th April 2020

Q1. A man bought some fruits at the rate of 16 for Rs. 24 and sold them at the rate of 8 for Rs.
      18. What is the profit percent?
           (a) 25%                         (b) 40%                    (C) 50%              (D) 60%

Ans. - (C) Solution: -           CP of 1 fruit = 24/16 = 1.5
                                         SP of 1 fruit = 18/8 = 2. 25
                                         Profit = SP - CP = 2.25 - 1.5 = 0.75
                                         Profit percent = (Profit * 100)/ CP = (0.75*100)/1.5 = 50%
Q2. If the cost price of 12 pens is equal to the selling price of 8 pens, the gain percent is:
(A) 50%                        (B) 33 1/3%                        (C) 25%                    (D) 66 2/3%
Ans.- (a)   Solution:-   Let CP of a pen = x, SP of a pen = y
                                                     12 x = 8 y => y/x = 3/2
                                   Gain% = {(y - x)/x} * 100 = (y/x - 1) * 100 = (3/2 - 1) * 100
                                   Gain % = 50 %.
Q3. The sum of the present ages of a father and his son is 60 years. Six years ago, father's ae
Was five times the age of the son? After 6 years, son's age will be:
          (A) 12 years              (B) 14 years                  (C) 18 years                (D) 20 years
Ans.-  (D)    Solution:-   Let the present age of father = X, present age of his son = Y
                                                                        X + Y = 60
                                                                    (X-6) = 5 * (Y-6)
                                                                        Or Y = 14
                                           Son's age after 6 years = 14 + 6 = 20 years.
Q4. The age of father 10 years ago was thrice the age of his son. After Ten years hence, father's age will be twice that of his son. The ratio of their present ages is:
(A) 5:2              (B) 7:3                     (C) 9:2                         (D) 13:4
Ans. - (B)    Solution: - Let the present age of father = X, present age of son = Y
                                                         10 years ago the age: (X - 10) = 3 * (Y - 10)
                                                     After 10 years      : (X + 10) = 2 * (Y + 10)
                                                                                      X = 70, Y = 30
                                                                                  Hence X: Y = 7:3
Q5. A 300 meter long train crosses a platform in 39 seconds while it crosses a signal pole in
18 seconds. What is the length of the platform?
  (A) 320 m                 (B) 350 m                      (C) 650 m            (D) Data inadequate
Ans.- (B)   Solution :-  Let Length of train = 300 m, Time to cross the pole = 18 sec
                                     Speed = 300/18 m//s
 Train crosses plateform of length x meters, total distance travelled by train = (300 + x) m
                                  Time taken = 39 secs
                                 Distance = Speed * time
                                300 + x = 300/18 * 39
                                    x = 350 meter.
